Rev. Kirk W. Freeman

Minister

Rev. Kirk W. Freeman (he/him) has been our minister since September 2023. Pastor Kirk graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary where he was awarded the James Morris Miller Award in Ethics. While a seminarian, Kirk served as a Chaplain Intern at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health and as a ministerial intern at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, MD. He was ordained by All Souls Church, Unitarian, in Washington, DC.

Kirk is a member of the UUA’s President’s Council, as well as the leadership team of UU Allies for Racial Equity (ARE). He previously served on the leadership team the Chesapeake Chapter of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association (CUUMA).

In his previous career, Kirk worked for fifteen years in politics, first as a congressional aide and then as a government relations executive. He lives in Washington, DC, with his spouse, Betsy Quilligan, who is passionate about her work as a postpartum doula, business owner, and OWL-trained comprehensive sexuality educator. Together they are raising one teen, one tween, and two tuxedo cats. Kirk loves music, laughter, deep conversations, and getting into good trouble.

Alex Chan

Music Director

Alex Chan (he/him) is an experienced voice accompanist, church pianist, orchestral keyboardist, and pianist for a variety of vocal ensembles in Maryland and Asia. In addition to playing the piano, he has also sung tenor in vocal ensembles in Asia, and the Chamber Singers of the University of Maryland, of which he has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in world-class performance halls. He won the gold prize in the piano duet category at the 3rd Piano Festival held in Singapore. Alex was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has recently earned a doctoral degree in Collaborative Piano at University of Maryland, College Park, where his final dissertation dealt with songs with non-poetic texts.

Linda Gravely

Office Manager

Linda Gravely (she/her) joined Davies as office manager after a 32-year career in journalism and public relations. She began her career as a daily newspaper reporter for the Buffalo Courier Express, where in her first year she was recognized as a Runner-Up for the Rookie of the Year Award for the quality of her reporting. Upon relocating to the DMV she began a successful career in Federal service.  As the Public Affairs Specialist for the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC), she wrote press releases, speeches and provided content for the agency’s web presence on the topic of job safety and health.

Linda’s work at OSHRC was recognized by the National Association of Government Communicators for her contributions on behalf of the disabled. For her work in writing a booklet on Simplified  Proceedings at the OSHRC, she received a Hammer Award from then Vice-President Al Gore’s initiative to streamline government.

Linda believes in the importance of giving back to her community.  She has participated in numerous volunteer activities such as serving as a reading, writing, and grammar tutor in the Federal Adopt-a-School’s Program, providing after-school academic tutoring in a religious setting, and many other service activities as a long-time member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. As a proud alumnae and supporter of Northwestern University, she believes in life-long learning and takes every opportunity to learn new skills, such as HTML, project management, and Spanish.
