Community Organizations for BIPOC UUs
There are many resources and organizations created for – and by – Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Unitarian Universalists, that offer spaces of belonging, spiritual nourishment, and community support. This list offers a range of opportunities to connect—from worship and meditation spaces to leadership development and storytelling—designed specifically for BIPOC UUs.
White allies are encouraged to spread the word about these organizations and find other opportunities to engage in anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and multicultural education and organizing.
Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) creates spiritual community for Black UUs and other Black people committed to collective liberation.
Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministry (DRUUMM) offers BIPOC UUs worship services, chaplains, virtual meetings, events, workshops and community support. Among others, the AANHPIC (Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander) Caucus of DRUUMM offers a monthly zoom coffee hour on the 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 8:00 pm Eastern Time.
The Mountain Top: A UU BIPOC Community meets on Sundays at 830 pm Eastern Time with multiple services and community gatherings
Sister SoUUrce is a unique space for Black UU women and girls (womxn, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary inclusive) to gather their stories and voices, to explore their presence in UUism; accomplishments, sorrows, wonderings and wanderings.
Taproot: A National BIPOC Space offers monthly virtual gatherings for BIPOC Leaders in UU Congregations to find rest & renewal, build shared analysis, and engage in leadership development. The term “leader” is broadly defined in Taproot. While religious professionals are welcome, this space is primarily for lay leaders who have, are, and want to serve in a variety of ways within their congregations.
UUs of Color Story Project is dedicated to lift up stories of Unitarian Universalists of Color. They are seeking and accepting more stories.
BIPOC UU Coffee Hour meets at 3:30 pm Eastern Time on the first Sunday of every month. For more information and the zoom link email Leilani@wsuu.org.
BIPOC only Meditation Hour meets every other Mondays at 8 pm Eastern Time. Breathe and center in BIPOC only space as we ground and share and tend our hearts and feelings. A variety of BIPOC audio guided meditations, visualizations, and affirmation recordings will be offered and after each we will be engaging in small group sharing.
