A Dialogue on Race and Ethnicity (ADORE)
January 12 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
A Dialogue on Race and Ethnicity (ADORE) will next meet at 6pm Friday, January 12, 2024, HERE, when Pastor Kirk will facilitate a discussion about the film A Time for Burning. The 1966 Oscar-nominated documentary follows the efforts of the minister of a Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, to encourage his all-white congregation to build relationships with a Black Lutheran congregation on the city’s north side. The 57-minute film can be viewed in advance on PBS.org. No log-in is necessary. It will also be shown immediately before the ADORE Meeting in the same Zoom room, beginning at 6pm.
Monthly at ADORE gatherings, we converse about happenings involving race and ethnicity. We usually start at 7pm. Your ideas for potential discussion topics are always welcome. Sheri Verdonk chairs (sverdonk@yahoo.com) and Linda Gravely (duuc-om@daviesuu.org) co-chairs. Among topics discussed in the past are intersectionality, colorism, and representation. ADORE is central to our diligent, intentional work at dismantling racism and other oppressions, including and not limited to antisemitism and sexism, in ourselves and others.
