Mitten Tree for Beacon House

Let’s spread our holiday cheer this season! As we have in past years, in December we will decorate our Mitten Tree with cold weather gear and holiday gifts for distribution by Beacon House Community Ministry. Beacon House was founded in 1991 by UU minister Rev. Donald E. Robinson and provides tutoring, mentoring, cultural, athletic, recreation and nutrition programs for at-risk children ages 5-18 who reside in the Edgewood Terrace community in Northeast Washington, DC.

Gift suggestions include: remote control cars, Black Baby Alive dolls, dirt bikes, hover boards or skateboards, Pokémon cards, stuffed animals (Squish mellows are a popular brand) and gift cards. Items should be unused and unwrapped and can be placed in the box by the bulletin board in the Davies lobby.

Generic gift cards are best – Visa, Target or Walmart work well. Teens welcome the ability to grab lunch or dinner on their own or with a friend from Chipotle, McDonalds, Wendy’s or Popeyes. Other gifts card suggestions include CVS, Safeway, and Giant.

If you are inclined to give a gift card, it could be a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with RaiseRight, a gift card purchasing option that would also benefit Davies. Please contact the Davies office if you would like to learn more about this option.
