An Eclectic October at Davies!

Friends – I’m excited to share the eclectic collection of worship services waiting for us this October. Together, these five Sundays represent the rich theological diversity of our community and celebrate the growing partnerships stretching beyond our walls. Check ‘em out below, and look for further details HERE! – Rev. Norm

Sunday, October 2
Blessing of the Animals
Our annual celebration of the furry, finned, feathered and more! A multi-generational service centering on the history-shifting friendship of Saints Clare and Francis of Assisi. Bring your beloved companions, pictures, or stuffed animals. All are welcome!

Sunday, October 9
We Are Still Here: Through Piscataway Eyes
Our good friends at Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church welcome us back for a shared service centered on the words of Davies friend Ariane Odom of the Piscataway-Conoy Tribe. The service will be live streamed to the Davies sanctuary for a Watch Party, and accessible from home online.

Sunday, October 16
Fighting Hunger! A Poetry Service
Deepening our commitment to the work of hunger relief, we welcome poets from around the globe as they Speak Back to Hunger. This powerful service brings together Davies’ deep commitment to the arts and to social justice.

Sunday, October 23
Feeding Body and Soul
Rev. Kären Rasmussen joins Rev. Norm on the Chancel to celebrate our partnership with No Child Goes Hungry. Together, we’ll consider what it takes to nourish our neighbors, both physically and spiritually. The service will be followed by a blessing of the Little Free Pantry.

Sunday, October 30
Samhain: Honoring the Ancestors
We close the month with a celebration of Samhain. This interactive worship service, led by our Wiccan members, offers us the chance to engage in the ancient practices of honoring the ancestors, invoking the elements, and seeking spiritual insight.

Save the Date!
Mural Painting Oct. 8
Join Prince Georges County artist Luther Wright as he creates an astounding mural on the front wall of our storage shed, bringing new life to the Davies grounds. Davies children (and children-at-heart) will work with Luther, learning about his artistry by participating in his process. We aim to start around 10:30am. Check your E-Minder for details.
