Holiday Happenings at Davies

It’s going to be a busy December as we celebrate the holidays in true Davies style. Check out the listings below and join us for this festive and joyous season.

Holiday Market
Sundays, December 4 & 11
The Holiday Market makes a triumphant return after a three year hiatus. This is one-stop shopping for books, jewelry, baked goods, holiday decorations, and exquisite hand-made items. All proceeds support the Davies operating fund – so feel free to offer more than the stated price of an item!

Those who have items to donate can deliver them to Davies on the preceding Saturdays from 10 to 11am, or on Sunday morning between 9:30 and 10am.

Beacon House Mitten Tree
Sundays, December 4 & 11

Bring gifts of new mittens and coats for people of all ages over the first two Sundays in December. During our festive service on December 11, we’ll decorate our beloved Mitten Tree with your donations then deliver them to our partners at Beacon House in DC. All donations must be unused and unwrapped.

In addition to donating coats and gloves, consider giving… Remote control cars, Baby Alive dolls (black), dirt bikes, hover board or skateboards, Pokémon cards, and stuffed animals (Squish mellows are a popular brand), or…

Gift cards that allow for wide usage are especially welcome, including Visa, Target or Walmart. Teens are always grateful for the opportunity to share a meal with friends at places like Chipotle, McDonalds, Wendy’s, or Popeyes

Holiday Social & Historic House Tour
Saturday, December 10

All are invited to the Dowling’s Holiday Party on Saturday, December 10 at 3pm, 13907 Cherry Tree Crossing Road, Brandywine. Tours of their historic home will be offered from 3 to 4pm. Family and friends of all ages are welcome. RSVP to 301-580-7439 with name and number of guests.

Davies Concert Series
Choral Arts, December 11

The Davies Concert Series returns with excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and the world premiere of Prayers from the Old Church by Mary Coy Whitmore, featuring the Chesapeake Choral Arts Society under the direction of Leroy Pressley. The concert begins at 4 pm onsite at Davies and will also be available online.

In keeping with the Series’ emphasis on accessibility, all tickets are Pay What You Can. They can be reserved on Eventbrite in advance, or obtained onsite beginning 30 minutes prior to performance.

Sunday Morning Worship
Onsite and Online (HERE)

As always, Davies offers a variety of worship experiences, honoring our traditions and deepening our connections. Included are a music-centered Sunday,  a truly “UU” pageant, a candlelit Christmas Eve, and a quiet, online gathering on Christmas morning.

Sunday, December 4
Days of Wonder

As the planet dips toward the Winter Solstice, we celebrate the stories of the season, from an ancient lamp casting shadows in the Temple, to a star streaking across the sky, to the gift of milk and honey offered to a traveling sage.

Sunday, December 11
Come Sing a Song with Me

Drawing deeply from our Unitarian Universalist musical traditions, we’ll combine some Davies favorites with less familiar gems. Lend your voice to our musical exploration of wonder and appreciation of the divine!

Sunday, December 18
A Holiday Pageant

Join us for a rollicking pageant that celebrates a range of traditions in this season of wonder. Our festive morning is the perfect prelude to our contemplative Christmas Eve service.

Saturday, December 24 at 5:30pm
A Candlelit Christmas Eve

On Saturday evening, we offer a quietly joyous Christmas Eve service of “Lessons & Carols.” If you’re joining from home, have a candle ready so we can fill our community with light as we sing “Silent Night.”

Sunday, December 25
A Morning Gathering (Online Only)

On Christmas Morning, Rev. Norm hosts an informal, online-only gathering for reflection and conversation.
