Letter from the Minister: OWL Takes Flight!

Friends – I’m thrilled to share that Davies is moving boldly into the new year with the launch of Our Whole Lives (OWL) later this month! This has been in the works for a long time. It’s possible now thanks to our growing partnership with Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church and to our own dedicated lay leaders

I want to offer a huge thanks to Carolyn Wooster for making it all happen, and to Joey Pascarella and Lora Bennett, who completed the extensive training to become OWL facilitators.

As you may know, OWL is “a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education curricula for use in both secular settings and faith communities.” Created through a collaboration between the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, it’s used by congregations and schools across the country.

Participants from Davies and Paint Branch will meet onsite at Davies on January 22, February 5, and February 19, grouped by Grades 7-9 and 4-6. We don’t yet have a trained OWL facilitator for the K-3 group but we’ll provide childcare and “OWL-Lite” read-alouds and activities.

And… we could use your help in getting the word out!

Participating children don’t have to be members of either congregation, or even part of a Unitarian Universalist family. Please download the flier HERE and share it with any parents or guardians who might be interested. If you have any questions, feel free to email Carolyn at carolyn.wooster@gmail.com.

The addition of OWL programming at Davies is yet another wondrous sign that we are emerging fully and gloriously from the past few years. Thank you to everyone who has come forward to make that emergence happen!

Wishing you all good things,
Rev. Norm
