What does America’s “4th of July” celebration mean to you: to your sense of freedom, pride, and patriotic obligations; to your aspirations; to your discomfort, suspicion, and fear? Dr. Christopher Bell returns to the Davies pulpit to explore these questions and more as we approach this iconic but complicated American celebration.
Dr. Bell is an author, poet, and lecturer known for his controversial writings on race issues in the Black church and for coining the term “White Superiority Syndrome.” A retired Major of the U.S. Army, he co-founded the Muslim American Veterans Association in 1997 and later became a Unitarian Universalist and humanist. His published works include Soldiers Do Reason Why…, Lt Williams on the Color Front, The Belief Factor, The White Superiority Syndrome, and The Black Clergy’s Misguided Worship Leadership. He has long been a pillar of the Davies community.
