ADORE: A Dialogue on Race and Ethnicity

June 14, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

In this forum we explore our feelings on racial and ethnic issues to learn more about ourselves and about people who may have different feelings. During an Open Discussion Period participants are encouraged to discuss events that prompted them to reflect on their own racial identity.

Facilitator’s Discussion Questions:

Does generational difference with both the black and white communities effect our anti-racism efforts? For example – older folks played by the rules to get ahead whereas younger people feel they shouldn’t have to abide by these rules as they are entitled to better treatment.

What is your take-away from the “Doctrine of Discovery,” Pope Alexander VI’s 1493 Bull regarding the exploration of non-European countries? (Reading provided HERE.)

What is your take-away from the manipulations of Mr. Julius Rosenwald’s educational projects? (Reading provided HERE.)

Should (all, some, none) of the Confederate symbols (statues, monuments, etc.) be removed from public property? (Reading provided HERE.)

Optional potluck at 6:30 P.M

Discussion begins at 7:00 P.M.
